Our Staff

Ali Waltien is a Certified Child Life Specialist funded by the Mahana Magic Foundation and working with the Cancer Patient Support Program to provide family centered care to patients diagnosed with cancer who have children. Cancer is a family diagnosis and Ali strives to empower children of adult patients with knowledge and coping skills so that they can successfully face the stressors of a caregiver’s illness.

Ali grew up in Shelburne, Vermont before moving to Providence, RI to attend school at Roger Williams University. She has a BA in English Literature with a minor in Anthropology and Sociology. Ali lived in Providence for six years attending school and then working as a preschool teacher before she returned to Vermont to continue her schooling to become a Certified Child Life Specialist.

Ali started her child life career working with pediatric patients facing a wide range of medical interventions at Vermont Children’s Hospital, before evolving her role to fit the needs of adult patients with children. Ali provides developmentally appropriate education to children to help them prepare for changes in the family, as well as providing opportunities for self-expression through therapeutic activities.

When not working, Ali is happiest spending time with family and friends, curling up with a good book, or enjoying the outdoors.
